Pillar 2 — What's actually inside a Lio core

We'll tell you exactly what you're inhaling. No proprietary blends. No mystery.

A Lio core is a hand-pressed plant fibre infused with food-grade essential oils. Nothing combusts. Nothing heats. Nothing vaporizes. You're inhaling cool air carrying scent molecules — the same physical mechanism as smelling fresh herbs.

The three core families

Plants, chosen for the research they appear in.

The active aromatic compounds in our cores come from three plant families. Each was chosen because they appear in the peer-reviewed literature on olfactory and respiratory-tract craving research.

Family 01 · Mint & menthol

Peppery Mint · Minty Magic

Active aromatics: menthol · menthone · 1,8-cineole

From Mentha piperita essential oil. These compounds are responsible for the cool airway sensation that most closely mimics the throat-hit dimension identified by Rose & Behm.

Family 02 · Spice

Cinnamon Spice

Active aromatics: cinnamaldehyde · eugenol

From Cinnamomum essential oil. Warm aromatic profile that targets the olfactory-craving pathway documented by Sayette & Parrott.

Family 03 · Citrus & fruit

Ohh My Orange · Mango Passion · Razzy Berry

Active aromatics: limonene · linalool · monoterpenes

From cold-pressed citrus and natural fruit aromatics. Mango Passion and Razzy Berry contain a small amount of a food-and-cosmetic-grade carrier (the same class of carrier used in flavor extracts, approved for oral and skin contact) to keep the fruit aroma vivid. Our mint and spice cores contain no carrier at all.
